Second Nature exists to bring nature back to the forefront of the spaces we live, work, heal, and gather.
Founded by Hannah Critchlow, the studio was created around a simple belief: nature should be part of the space from the beginning, not added as an afterthought. Through preserved moss, plant design, and nature-focused spaces indoors and out, Second Nature helps create environments that feel more grounded, alive, and connected.
About Second Nature
Lets go back to the begining..My love for plants started back in 2018 with a cactus from Walmart that quickly turned into many (which seems to be how it starts for most of us!)
In 2022, I had the opportunity to be part of opening Grow Plant Bar here in Wichita. That space and the people in it completely changed my life. It’s also where Planterior was born, a biophilic design business focused on preserved moss installations and interior plant design, and where I spent the next four years gaining hands-on experience.
My very first moss wall is still inside Grow. That one piece sparked a fascination that completely changed the direction of my work. I became obsessed with learning more and eventually found myself deep in a Google rabbit hole learning about biophilic design.
Through working at GROW and operating Planterior, I learned from incredible mentors, worked with amazing clients, and fell even deeper in love with the work.
Second Nature is the evolution of that journey.

Expanding outdoors..Although this journey began indoors, my love for the natural world has never stopped at the front door.
Over the years, I’ve learned so much about plants from my greatest teacher, my husband, who works professionally in landscaping. Somewhere along the way, our conversations about plants, functionality and his perfectionism became part of how I think about design too.
Now, Second Nature is beginning to expand outdoors through seasonal planters, exterior plant installations and more in collaboration with experienced landscape professionals.
It feels like a natural next step and excited to see where it goes!
